The Northern Wolfa Coven practices the Horsa Tradition and we hived from the Wolfa Coven in Pennsylvania in the USA. During the 1960's under the guidance of Sybil Leek, the coven in South-Central Pennsylvania in the USA was established. The original Horsa Coven was located in the New forest in England. At that time the concept of a Tradition name was not as prevalent as it is today, so when the coven was established in Pennsylvania it became known as the North American branch of Horsa. When the coven was first established our original Elders referred to themselves as "Traditionalists" and Druidic-Witches.
We also practice the Sacred Pentagraph Tradition, (also known as the Ancient Order of Bell, Book & Candle) that originally started in Houston, Texas and later in Las Vegas, Nevada by Charmaine Dey and Tarostar under the guidance of Sybil Leek.
In our Coven we practice both of these Traditions as our linages of these Traditions are from Sybil Leek and have the same basic foundational belief system, philosophical conceptions and our Theology is rooted in similar understandings. Being able to practice both of these Traditions in our coven provides us with opportunities to explore both Traditions mysteries and experience each Traditions unique rituals.
We seek a harmonious relationship with ourselves, with others and all things. We are guided by the tenets of our religion and celebrate the seasonal rituals of Candlemas (Spring festival or February Eve), May Eve (Summer Festival, Beltane), Lammas (Autumn Harvest Festival, sometimes called Lugnasad), Hallowmass (Winter Festival, Hallowe’en, All Hallows or Samhain).
Therefore it is affirmed that the children of the God and Goddess of Wicca shall accept a belief in the ideals of a balanced life; the philosophy of Harmony among Nature’s Kingdoms; an outlook of Perfect Love and Perfect Trust; an attitude of Humility; a patient tolerance for all humanity; an obligation of learning and the application of Knowledge towards Wisdom. These will bring advancement to better levels of life, according to the Law of Progressive Evolution, in a series of successive life cycles.
So Be It Ordained.
The Horsa Tradition lineage as passed down to us through Sybil Leek, is tied to England and a European style witchcraft. It is considered to be British Traditional Witchcraft by some, because it originated in England. The Horsa Tradition materials are largely oathbound and as such these teachings are not available to non-initiates of Horsa.
Whereas in the Sacred Pentagraph Tradition approaches witchcraft from the perspective of a universal truth, it is a lodge based system of Wicca, but still approaches witchcraft through the lens of Theosophy, an ancient Wisdom Tradition. Sacred Pentagraph Tradition has published books, and shares the basic workings of the Tradition in the published books.
The Horsa Tradition is passed down orally, and it is based on the type of Witchcraft that was practiced before the Witchcraft laws in England were abolished, which means that the actual rituals and many of the original practices are based on a specific snapshot in time. The Sacred Pentagraph Tradition evolved out of the Horsa Tradition, with the addition of more perspectives, including specifically some from America. Other types of magics also became part of the Tradition, including Hoodoo magical practices that were learned by our original Elders during the time the Sacred Pentagraph system was being developed.
Our coven does not seek out or recruit members, but we occasionally do have room as time and space permits for serious adult seekers looking to come home, of all genders, 25 years of age and up. We welcome inquiries from seekers and covens looking to practice in either or both related traditions. We happy to network with others who are interested in our unique path.
